<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've been working on creating a runtime Arena Editor within Unity over the past month, which allows players to place objects into a scene and edit their position, rotation and scale all at runtime, very much like the Unity editor itself. Above are 3 separate iterations of my progress.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The first was simply getting a camera to move around and the ability to place different placeholder objects. I also added in a simple 'Delete All' function that wipes the slate clean.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The second expanded upon this, and fixed a few starting inconsistencies, IE spawning objects with an offset so they aren't instantiated in the floor, and adding physic enabled objects, along with the ability to select each individual object for editing. This included changing the objects material and instantiating a axis gizmo to the selected objects transform location.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The third iteration I coded a few runtime object editor scripts that uses these gizmos to allow the player to freely move, rotate and scale the selected object freely by clicking the axis and moving the mouse. Its not perfect but there is still a fair amount to add to the editor as a whole, and many tweaks and additions to be made. This was just the process of getting basic functionality up and running.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I learnt alot, surprised by the complexity of something I think alot of developers take for granted is that little gizmo we use in lots of 3D editing programs/game engines.</div>

MetalMania v0.4 is now available for download!</h3>
<h3>
<a href="https://katd.itch.io/metalmania-v04">https://katd.itch.io/metalmania-v04</a></h3>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So the latest version of MetalMania is out, and I think I am finished with this project for now. I'll explain why below, but if you're not interested in reading all of that you can skip further down the post to find out whats next for me!<br />
<br />
<b>Is MetalMania the game I set out to create?</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
In truth, yes and no. I never set out to make a game initially, I wanted to see if I could replicate the behaviours of combat robots and their weapons because Robot Wars was returning to our screens and that made me remember the old series I loved as a child. This lead to me openign up Unity and getting started with everyone favourite white boxs!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQJlO6bUN5GB7OQC3DMZcI-NYz9nqNpBvRH_9q8-TpiqxmT5XecpNPe5QoOTpyWHRvR8iyYd2kWHHfyIOByE8pAHPmJdY5h_wEiVuHectmuh4xowXel4eaadc_iLv4pp1lQQ9qw9h5s9Hs/s1600/RobotTests.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="590" data-original-width="1341" height="280" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQJlO6bUN5GB7OQC3DMZcI-NYz9nqNpBvRH_9q8-TpiqxmT5XecpNPe5QoOTpyWHRvR8iyYd2kWHHfyIOByE8pAHPmJdY5h_wEiVuHectmuh4xowXel4eaadc_iLv4pp1lQQ9qw9h5s9Hs/s640/RobotTests.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
These were the first two bots I ever programmed, using a standard Unity car controller to drive them around. The weapons were extremely simple scripts that either rotated the disc via its local axis or lerped the axe arm between two local positions. It was cool! the weapons performed more or less how you'd want them too, but with no real physics, they didn't FEEL quite right... More on on that later. So these bots are cool and all, but they're not exactly nice to look at. I wanted stuff to look like the old show, robots like my favourite Hypno-Disc and Firestorm instantly sprung to mind. I had no plans to actually really release these or even profit so I wanted to recreate some of my televised favourites.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDPc2rW4ToXMVfwklxx0eRe4m70YX-khmFD8MtRFsP0W-7wewHjtrJ_LfgPTi7LlOkCvad6Z5FXaK73rySo8OTFJcl6oGa1tseX3Lkyqwab3dxsKwQLS7jasecex0zUI9B95ZH8V25-iSe/s1600/HypnoDisc.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="292" data-original-width="458" height="255" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDPc2rW4ToXMVfwklxx0eRe4m70YX-khmFD8MtRFsP0W-7wewHjtrJ_LfgPTi7LlOkCvad6Z5FXaK73rySo8OTFJcl6oGa1tseX3Lkyqwab3dxsKwQLS7jasecex0zUI9B95ZH8V25-iSe/s400/HypnoDisc.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvlQT1Bk95rzvOOZ_QARQ6Axkey5HcM73iGDtXKVbRVMSRqPYSHqZe0Qqs17tq3xb8CVl7jmv2YPbpi28ON2Ym_CIgPtMSJBNGo7MK8Nw0uCpO1W7ApK46-8nny71SNnuPvl95-vWToS-Y/s1600/FireStorm.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="544" data-original-width="796" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvlQT1Bk95rzvOOZ_QARQ6Axkey5HcM73iGDtXKVbRVMSRqPYSHqZe0Qqs17tq3xb8CVl7jmv2YPbpi28ON2Ym_CIgPtMSJBNGo7MK8Nw0uCpO1W7ApK46-8nny71SNnuPvl95-vWToS-Y/s400/FireStorm.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These models were pretty good in my eyes to their real life counterparts (well, Hypno-Disc was a little chunkier, but I sorted that out later) and I had managed to model and create the textures for them all by myself. I was adamant about the project being as much of my own work as possible. I did this to improve upon my development skills and also claim bragging rights to owning everything produced in the game as my own work.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Expanding the Project.</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now I had something pretty to look at, I started expanding the 'games' features. What use are combat robots if you don't have an arena to fight them in!? Again, I drew from the original show for inspiration, I wanted a pit to dump robots into! Flamethrowers! Circular saws with flying showy sparks! Wow.... Thats alot of stuff to include... I decided that maybe having a functional pit that can detect a robot being pushed into it to be the best bet for now, as well as creating a few other basic box bots for future conversion into more replicas. Since I used a trigger volume to detect a robot in the pit, it was also easy to setup a flamepit that dealt damage over time to a simple health bar linked to a players robot.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiDuPjk-1eCkaVI6LgnnNp33gxdrWkv-iZtDfUp44Sc_QjgnRX0jG3KWoeOSIjqBTFU8YylMV4vifR0XmQER22D9e6Go1XlRkU7xdSz_dvo2Bw35QN1kBP9fXWH_X7JF8tD4AxaBZb1fdR/s1600/RobotTest3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="366" data-original-width="906" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiDuPjk-1eCkaVI6LgnnNp33gxdrWkv-iZtDfUp44Sc_QjgnRX0jG3KWoeOSIjqBTFU8YylMV4vifR0XmQER22D9e6Go1XlRkU7xdSz_dvo2Bw35QN1kBP9fXWH_X7JF8tD4AxaBZb1fdR/s640/RobotTest3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxVhQJ2N4FM7_bb0NA2a5KCR6YNj2vvhpszHZhR9WqQX-7mM9JVFjH_uaULbC7d3WpOkiBmazPtQNQKBFgUWvJyyUfvfL-jZSzh8-Puoa4nrUQlMX8EkVE6VB7_RRK15pHW_Bu5KRFblgj/s1600/RobotTest4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="636" data-original-width="1343" height="302" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxVhQJ2N4FM7_bb0NA2a5KCR6YNj2vvhpszHZhR9WqQX-7mM9JVFjH_uaULbC7d3WpOkiBmazPtQNQKBFgUWvJyyUfvfL-jZSzh8-Puoa4nrUQlMX8EkVE6VB7_RRK15pHW_Bu5KRFblgj/s640/RobotTest4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The above arenas are of my test arena, that I used to program and test new mechanics in, as well as whenever I added a new bot. The arena included other robots to interact with, rigidbody cubes along with some floor spikes, the pit and flame pit to see how each robot and mechanic reacted with one another. I spent ALOT of time playing around in here with each bot to tweak it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So now I had some functional systems I needed a proper shiny arena to make. I was rewatching Series 4 at the time and realised there had never been a video game interpretation of the Pinball Warrior tournament. The only existing game to come close was Extreme Destruction on Game Boy Advance, which featured some similar Trials.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga7ZAhnX1F6DjLLL_SER3F_FyAOvQmL6YGgAWTH6QSAgeDqF5JUz0dyLPWmuLCctYttz6fYZ2Zr18AzApaIEVFLky7zmbFB0HtDmxCRxWvcaHHcaKmTGjDLIJ-Rxj4tUfSYJtLG2DSzrCY/s1600/Pinball.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="596" data-original-width="799" height="476" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga7ZAhnX1F6DjLLL_SER3F_FyAOvQmL6YGgAWTH6QSAgeDqF5JUz0dyLPWmuLCctYttz6fYZ2Zr18AzApaIEVFLky7zmbFB0HtDmxCRxWvcaHHcaKmTGjDLIJ-Rxj4tUfSYJtLG2DSzrCY/s640/Pinball.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was a single player mode based very faithfully on its TV counterpart. You drive your robot around the arena and try and score as many points as possible in the time limit. At this point the only bots I had playable were Firestorm and Hypno-Disc. It lacked certain things such as a full background, full studio styled lights and house robots and certainly had its flaws, such as the dodgey weapon physics and collision issues, but I was proud of what I had whipped up and decided to share my creation with the newly formed up Robot Wars community.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Community Expansion and Learning.</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Turns out the Robot Wars community was far from dead and I had a fair bit to catch up on. After the shows original run ended, robot combat entered the 'underground' once again and was popular in a variety of live events throughout the UK. There was also this fabled game I'd never heard of called Robot Arena 2 which was released back in 2003 but was still immensely popular today.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My post to the <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/robotwars/comments/5vdnip/robot_wars_game_development/" target="_blank">Robot Wars community on Reddit</a> was met with a pretty positive reception! A few people gave some great feedback, praising the looks of the game and commenting on things like the controls could be improved. I'm a strong believer in developers communicating and interacting with their audience so I responded to nearly all the comments and answered any questions that were brought up, as well as making sure people understood on what the point of the project was, and how it was being made. They were very understanding and supportive! People seemed interested in seeing the game develop so I made a note of updating the community whenever there was a new build to try!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>University Module Development - Dump Zone Game Mode.</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A few months had passed and I was back studying in my final year at university, progress on the game in my free time had slowed considerably but I was granted a chance to work on MetalMania (then still untitled) for one of my university modules focused on building a portfolio of work for myself. Talk about killing two birds with one stone! A chance to work on a project I wanted to work on anyway, a chance to further my skills and spend more development time AND to have it all academically assessed at the end. Sold.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided that if the Pinball Warrior mode was going to aesthetically look like the 'golden age' of Robot Wars with the hazard stripes and red borders, then I wanted the next arena to be more faithful to the series before, akin to series 3 and before.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This arena also featured grinders on the side walls and what was to be the awesome arena flipper! This mode was another test of driving skill for single players, and they had to dump a variety of objects into the pit in the time limit while avoiding arena hazards and scoring points, being overzealous with your pushing and you might end up in the pit yourself! This was also the first use of Unity's joint system, which I had some fun playing around with making swinging door hinges on the fridge and microwave. I originally wanted the toaster to be an actual working toaster that would pop out toast upon collision, but it wasn't worth the development time as I now had to deliver a portion of the project on a deadline.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had the arena and game mode modelled and functional, the problem was creating playable Shunt AI. Now programming isn't my strong point, and I struggled to make a indepth AI that would follow the player 'fimrly but fairly' instead of relentless ramming into them which then in turn made it not fun, but also caused lots of collision issues, causing robots to clip and fly everywhere and it was very messy. I tried a variety of methods such as changing Shunts collision to just one big cube to make a flat surface for the pushing but to no avail. I decided to keep the game mode just in case I wanted to come back to it later and implement it, as I felt, like Pinball Warrior, fans would like to play a game mode from the show that had never been gamified before.</div>

My<a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/robotwars/comments/697rpy/robot_wars_game_development_update/" target="_blank"> second post to Reddit</a> received even more attention, which granted me even more feedback! People now started suggesting what they'd like to see in the game, things like a Bot Builder to make their own creations and people still thinking I was trying to compete with Robot Arena 2 (Which I never set out to do but it was nice people were making comparisons). Once again I did my best to interact and answer all the questions people asked, including such things as copyright. Spurred by the feedback I carried on!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On my travels through the web and anything I may have missed out on, I came across a show called Robotica. Instead of competing robots against one another in combat and fights, Robotica competed robots against each other in task based challenges, to see which robot was the more versatile and supierior. Some of the robots on the show wouldn't even have weapons! A concept that would be entirely laughable in the Robot Wars or Battlebots arenas. I had wanted to do the old Robot Wars gauntlet run anyway, so making my own interpretation of Roboticas gauntlet run seemed like a great way to include something that wasn't Robot Wars inspired in the game.</div>

There was also new robots to accompany this update, and I had spent alot of time completely reworking how weapons behaved and performed. After having the original script I whipped up that used lerps and no real physics start to get really to implement and hard to use, along with it causing all sorts of collision errors in game while it was being used, especially against other robots.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used this script for a little bit before biting the bullet and removing it completely, remembering that the Unhity hinge joints I had put on Dump Zones objects were basically integrated physic components and behaved more or less how I wanted things to behave with my terrible manual coding. Surely they could be tweaked to behave exactly how I wanted them too?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well they pretty much did! I transitioned my weapon system through to use these components, giving flippers virtual springs that would damper with different values, physically pushing the flippers through the virtual space and interact much more realistically with other robots and environments. Spinners use motors that spin up with variable velocity and stop when they hit something instead of continuously spinning. I really should look through what unity has to offer before I set out and try and make my own system first.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And thus, another update was posted to Reddit, garnering more feedback and more suggestions, much to my delight. By this point this project had far surpassed my original intentions of making some robots in Unity, and I was thrilled to have an audience willingly looking at what I was creating and giving me feedback.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>The Final Build</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
MetalMania at this point was the longest I've ever stuck with and created a project, and it was starting to show. I did feel myself getting a little fatigued with it, noticing all the little things that bothered me, what could be better, comparing myself to other developers, other projects that I felt did things better. However one thing that people had been asking for since the start was the opportunity to battle the robots against one another and I was determined to at least deliver on that front!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After tweaking the manually triggered physic volumes weapons had to respond better to the new component behaviours (how flippers move and actually flip) I started designing an entirely new arena with entirely new hazards, this time inspired by the Battlebots arena! Cool hidden floor saws! Giant hammers! Corkscrews! New ways to get hurt! How exciting!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjHEDiUCnqrCe8VWvDZYPfvI7xPO6GVAxPKlKp0zyeZj2sSRiKgUwLSWooO2hsOnw58xKyKcPHlwvNOy-zC4RS_ayeomZmMe2gI6DVo5Eax7weKioGirLyrIQJYX3gBhTSUdGD3cuy5FlI/s1600/2PlayerGrey.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="759" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjHEDiUCnqrCe8VWvDZYPfvI7xPO6GVAxPKlKp0zyeZj2sSRiKgUwLSWooO2hsOnw58xKyKcPHlwvNOy-zC4RS_ayeomZmMe2gI6DVo5Eax7weKioGirLyrIQJYX3gBhTSUdGD3cuy5FlI/s640/2PlayerGrey.PNG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also added in a few of my own hazards, a spinning platform in the middle of the arena that throws your robots driving off, as well as a drop zone that drops a random object on you to deal damage if you stay in it for too long. This was going to be a local 2 player mode, so all robots had to be configured for two players to be able to be controlled and deal damage to each other. This was pretty simple by adding Player 2's controls on the other end of the keyboard, allowing to players to share and play.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Again, another simple mode but was very high in demand. I know my physics are far from perfect, as this was my first time programming them, I've learnt alot I can use to keep improving the next time I use them!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
MetalMania has been great to work on, has helped me improve immensely on my development skills and has even given me a small taste as to what having an audience for your game to be like. Its been a great experience and thank you to everyone that has followed me through it! So that leaves one question...</div>

I'm working with a few other indie developers to make Robot Rumble 2.0! It seems I'm not done with making a robot combat game, even though MetalMania has been 'finished'! This project is pretty relaxed and we work on things catered to our strengths. I am doing alot of design, 3D modelling and programming because of this. I have designed 2 arenas in the game so far, as well as modelling parts for scenes and robots. On the programming side I am currently working on an Arena Editor to accompany the BotLab which is being worked on by another team member. I am also responsible for the games official Twitter account and public representation.</div>

Visually I feel it looks better than MetalMania (As we are using 3rd party assets along with our own) and it plays better as well. The physics and bots are totally different to how I did mine and behave pretty accurately! We're taking alot of inspiration from Robot Arena 2 and really would love to compete with it.</div>

This project is already picking up in popularity within the community over on <a href="https://gametechmods.com/forums/game-development/robot-rumble-2-0-robot-combat-simulator-under-development/" target="_blank">GameTechMods</a> and we even have a <a href="https://twitter.com/RobotRumbleGame" target="_blank">Twitter account</a> that has pictures, news and social interaction with our audience.</div>

<br />
Greetings random internet surfer! It is I, AnarchyFox, and I have some juicy details to explain in this post. The reason for my delay in keeping up with these posts is that I am now employed fulltime, and can rarely squeeze in time to sit down and write up summaries for any MetalMania work I get done, but fear not, for I am still working pretty consistently on it! Those who frequent the Robot Wars subreddit can see the stuff I post there, or on my Twitter before I post anytthing here (because its way quicker to just upload a quick photo), will know that the 2 player mode is coming along well! The main arena is all finished, and I am in the middle of that fun little process of moving existing bots into the scene, while also converting them all into 2 player compatible bots AND making entirely brand new ones for the latest build.<br />
<br />
Which moves me nicely onto the latest edition of our rooster! Krave Monster! Created by AltaPowderDog (aka Carter Hurd), Krave Monster is a antweight robot that competes in local bot brawls. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQWT6AkADbs" target="_blank">A overview video of the robot</a> alongside other awesome antweight combat robotic goodness can be found on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPMThfZUPqx_dlbjoY0jznQ" target="_blank">Carter's Youtube channel!</a><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course, robots in MetalMania aren't protrayed as antweigtht, and also features pretty much all heavyweight bots, so in the recreation, he was scaled up to chomp on the likes of the competitors! While a few changes had to be made, such as having the cereal box being not an actual real cereal product, and incorporating some design choices <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AurvMibcPsI" target="_blank">from his second build of the Monster</a> he remains and functions pretty much the same as his real life counterpart.</div>

Even flat parts of this arena floor aren't safe with the Whirlygig to throw your driving off whack and a dead drop based hazard! You can't even get flipped out to escape!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Alongside this arena, I also want to rework the Sumo Basho arena into another local two player mode for this builds release, and if all goes according to plan, this might even be version 1.0! Which means making some sort of fancy trailer to flex my video editing muscles (which would also be the first trailer I've made for a game ever! Excitement!). See you soon!</div>

The release for v0.3 is uploaded and available for <a href="https://katd.itch.io/metalmania-v03" target="_blank">public download over on my Itch.io page!</a> If you're interested then I'd love for you to go check it out!<br />
<br />
This release seemed to take a while to put out, but I think that was down to it happening at a very busy time for me. Also reworking the entirety of how weapons work for the 3rd time. This time they work like a charm for the most part, I promise. Since they no longer use Lerps to rotate or move, weapon objects will no longer force themselves into that lerping position, even if say a wall is in the way, causing them to clip through. Now they work through Unity's hinge joint and rigidbody system, meaning not only do they rotate realistically, they also stop upon hitting solid objects and can move things lighter than them, etc. Using these components also means I can create scripts that affect the values directly, making the disparity been spinner weapons and axe weapons much greater with different behaviours such as velocity of the gyroscopic effect and an axes firing force.<br />
<br />
I have also made some changes to the appearance of the game, removing most things that directly reference Robot Wars as a branding, as of course, I do not own this and do not wish to invoke the wrath of the copyright holders! This is a fun fan game I am making to further my game development skills while also sharing what I've done with the community.<br />
<br />
Now v0.3 is finally out and the weapons behave normally, I can focus on the next game mode, another 2 robots and whatever other quality of life or bug fixes need doing... Next up I want to implement a 2 player battle mode! Wish me luck....<br />

Development is coming along nicely, even if it is a little slow, but that is mainly down to me trying to get a job!<br />
<br />
The Gauntlet Arena is all finished and implemented into the game, so the next playable build should have it included. It also includes a few more physic based elements such as breakable glass, moving and rotating objects and different weighted objects which block the players path to the finish. The goal is to reach the end as soon as possible and choose the best robot for the job, as some robots would be more suited to this challenge and perform better than others.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfCOhT-hsHT3peN7Caz0xmuA8yV1j2aOHOMxMpOEF9DuRME5Id42T-VwDZ6MjouAxwcCT6tF3tFJOSe0O_9VdHh4qGGvrX3cHaz7EwjmT_7V-7lt2yt0fQgT-5kK0MYVMdKxItl7US4zB0/s1600/Gauntlet.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="798" data-original-width="1600" height="318" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfCOhT-hsHT3peN7Caz0xmuA8yV1j2aOHOMxMpOEF9DuRME5Id42T-VwDZ6MjouAxwcCT6tF3tFJOSe0O_9VdHh4qGGvrX3cHaz7EwjmT_7V-7lt2yt0fQgT-5kK0MYVMdKxItl7US4zB0/s640/Gauntlet.PNG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7k6jaUOR_j-HljHrO_YWucxrlhC-12y_hrWvDakpAeXm-OKQadCFD1RTGvH8iQCfCj7J_w3sK_P19S26riST0g4OF5NoAf9jP6d-tXk8XedbineHboJpxwef8tLjKNTidDJKKO9CjwJNh/s1600/Gauntlet2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="807" data-original-width="1600" height="322" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7k6jaUOR_j-HljHrO_YWucxrlhC-12y_hrWvDakpAeXm-OKQadCFD1RTGvH8iQCfCj7J_w3sK_P19S26riST0g4OF5NoAf9jP6d-tXk8XedbineHboJpxwef8tLjKNTidDJKKO9CjwJNh/s640/Gauntlet2.PNG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
In terms of improvement, I definitely feel like it could use some more colour, so I might rework the textures at a later date because for now I'd like to move onto the 2 player battle mode.<br />
<br />
Speaking of moving onto other modes, I have also started on concepting out a basic bot builder feature in response to feedback I received about it being a desirable part of the game to be included. I didn't originally plan for this feature to be in the game to start with, so it may be a challenge to implement something that works with what I have already, but I welcome it! I'm not going to aim for something completely inclusive and complex, I feel like keeping with my aims on the rest of this project, aiming for a builder similar to Robot Wars games where it is more modular based with different options would be doable for my skill level.<br />

I will finish up the Gauntlet first, maybe publishing a playable build with it included, and then move onto starting the 2 player battle mode!</div>
Anarchy_Foxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16775928290740548761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485777456641820814.post-31889876963703693652017-05-21T11:37:00.000-07:002017-05-21T11:37:25.486-07:00Moving Forward - MetalmaniaThats a wrap! My final semester at university has finished, and so has some of the projects I've created alongside it. I've learnt alot these past 3 years about what I've wanted to do for a long time.<br />
<br />
Some of these projects (like MetalMania) I will be continuing in my spare time and they will see further development and I will try to complete them and have them released. Other projects like ARIA and D.va Dash I may touch on again. D.va Dash needs to be reworked either again in Construct 2, or Unity, spending more time on it and adding in more features for a more fleshed out game. One major advantage of having the game remade in Unity would be the ability to build it for Android.<br />
<br />
Now that MetalMania is no longer an Educational based project, certain things have to be changed, or permission gained for use. Copyrighted material such as the Robot Wars brand can also not be used. Because of this, it is now my goal to reach out and contact the roboteers who own the robots themselves. So far this has been successful (when I receive a response) as previously shown with Jellyfish. Apollo, the 2016 Robot Wars champions have also granted their approval for me to keep Apollo in the game.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzibzzE4QvinL_Lc4oKrK94JWuVgN3G0Mi1O2WxqLWcPwIrKOyqxSnKALMxi3aRsPT79gqIALpIEoRSvPngOtrokKdaX5M932m7zn_U82XqXP5xsvEpLzPK9mTVbHOW8ueGnm2KfTgW2-0/s1600/ApolloApproval.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="116" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzibzzE4QvinL_Lc4oKrK94JWuVgN3G0Mi1O2WxqLWcPwIrKOyqxSnKALMxi3aRsPT79gqIALpIEoRSvPngOtrokKdaX5M932m7zn_U82XqXP5xsvEpLzPK9mTVbHOW8ueGnm2KfTgW2-0/s640/ApolloApproval.PNG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The next step of development will be to continue getting permission for the robots seen on the show. Due to robots that competed in the old run of the show being retired or dismantled by now, contact details for them will be hard to access. New robots however have things such as Facebook and Twitter pages, and there are a large amount of roboteers on Reddit too, making them much easier to contact. For older robots I cannot get permission to use, I plan to create similar robots that do not infringe negatively on anybody's property.<br />
<br />
All copyrighted branding also will be removed and changed. I have lots of game mode ideas I wish to implement, as well as plenty more robots to add. Feedback has been positive and I am considering setting up a Patreon for my work, as I have had a few people ask me if I have one.Anarchy_Foxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16775928290740548761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485777456641820814.post-38378119492995129812017-04-14T10:42:00.002-07:002017-04-18T08:37:25.065-07:00Wibble Wobble Jellyfish on a plate!We're coming up to the 2017 Robot Wars series Grand Final in a few days and I recently saw one of this years competitors Dave Lawrie was retiring from the hobby due to being rejected for the next series. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/diegracefullyrobotics/posts/1788205488160802" target="_blank">You can find the full post here, </a>but long story short he is having to dismantle his robot 'Jellyfish' and distancing himself from the sport.<br />
<br />
I felt for the guy, and decided that I wanted to immortalise Jellyfish of some sorts, so what better way than to model it? No CAD was used to make the actual Jellyfish so I thought he might appreciate a fan made digital recreation!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3wTldkfV-tVL4F5NJ00H2miftGQsDs4aq0UvElKDa7MfniHv-VpWXYzQTH4w_XjXNeJmDyEzpLQPMdfOyuMYi6Nh8WpS_FURVi3Rkr-pwGJHoaT13ALgnXU3v3cymZB7Hr1G0E_KJMzSu/s1600/Jellyffish2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="170" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3wTldkfV-tVL4F5NJ00H2miftGQsDs4aq0UvElKDa7MfniHv-VpWXYzQTH4w_XjXNeJmDyEzpLQPMdfOyuMYi6Nh8WpS_FURVi3Rkr-pwGJHoaT13ALgnXU3v3cymZB7Hr1G0E_KJMzSu/s400/Jellyffish2.PNG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I sent Dave a few images of the renders and a small message that included a brief description of what I am doing with this project and was surprised to receive a response, and quite a flattering one at that!<br />

Then it was a simple matter of implementing the bot into the game like any other robot I've made before. I had to make a brand new script for Jelly's weapon, which is an actuated grabber claw designed to pin and hold robots.</div>

<br />
So its taken a fair few weeks since I showed a video for the Pinball Warrior mode, but I finally have something to show for Dump Zone! I felt the mode was polished enough to show off with all the new things I've added which include:
<br />
<ul>
<li>New Robots! (Apollo, Behemoth)</li>
<li>Weapon Physics! (Flippers and Spinners etc)</li>
<li>New Arena! (Series 3 inspired)</li>
<li>New Mode! (Dump Zone)</li>
<li>Updated UI! (WIP, coming soon)</li>
<li>Multiple Cameras!</li>
<li>Updates to robot handling (Added in 'Tank Steering' functionality)</li>
</ul>
Adding in physics that felt, looked and handled correctly was a challenge for me as I've never programmed them before and will more than likely have to keep tweaking them as development continues. There are also a few inconsistencies with the flipper animations which I will revisit and fix at a later date, for now they are all functional which is what matters. I also want to add more audio! The only music and sound effects in the game are the background music and the sound effects of grinders, sirens, announcer etc. I'm going to try and implement noises for the bots themselves, for when their weapon is activated and more.<br />
<br />
My next task is to re work the placeholder UI I had for the old build and make it so you can select what game mode and what robot you want to play as in a user friendly manner. This will include writing more code, as well as creating more visual UI elements.Anarchy_Foxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16775928290740548761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485777456641820814.post-53545120280625395242017-03-06T09:43:00.001-08:002017-03-06T09:43:11.045-08:00Apollo 3D Model Step by Step BuildThis post will be a step by step explanation of how I modelled the latest robot for my Robot Wars game, the 2016 champions, Apollo! Apollo ended up being the lowest poly robot I've modelled yet! Despite this, it was still quite the challenge to get all the angles and proportions moderately correct with the real thing. So please enjoy these photos!<br />

I had two options 1: Was to make a successor to my 2D platform game Dsyphoria, with similar themeing and art style. 2: Was to pitch my Robot Wars Game to my tutor and get the go ahead for it (despite it being in development anyway)<br />
<br />
I sketched out some ideas for a game called 'Holly is Lost' which is about a girl trapped in her dreams and nightmares, who she has to fight and explore the lands of her minds creation and wake up. Visually I took alot of inspiration from Tim Burton and games such as Don't Starve, Binding of Issac and Limbo. I was worried about how I could keep things artistically consistent however and still produce a game with fun gameplay. 2D animation is not my fotay and I feel my 3D art is much better than my 2D sketches.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<img height="320" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DSwajXzy9oY/WKxh3RasDaI/AAAAAAAAVok/ImtEw1qQ1Vkj6IEx1WafZ5f5HFlX1a4VgCL0B/h2048/5059186911102825090%253Faccount_id%253D3" width="179" /><img height="320" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-YDJ-c-L7TGw/WKxhLa-qurI/AAAAAAAAVoc/gtBGWD1ngLITwOOaOoHysrzSNFXzWHROwCL0B/h2048/8860371589593233983%253Faccount_id%253D3" width="179" /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ7UNV4dsciTj6sW0dSEqZsN8dFxXrA5MWEpswZd-9V37c51U0QydrKMQE_NUUD0Gup3dsIOBguLIPVuIY4QxyzdsJRUxwVhNV7cDd2wgeht1KiJQT3JfAW2rG5pm1q-uXN5N0mnFntIjI/s1600/Untitled.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ7UNV4dsciTj6sW0dSEqZsN8dFxXrA5MWEpswZd-9V37c51U0QydrKMQE_NUUD0Gup3dsIOBguLIPVuIY4QxyzdsJRUxwVhNV7cDd2wgeht1KiJQT3JfAW2rG5pm1q-uXN5N0mnFntIjI/s320/Untitled.png" width="231" /></a><br />
<br />
Due to this, I felt like despite me liking my idea it wouldn't be the best option and therefore I pitched my Robots to my tutor and he approved my decision! I'm glad I'll be able to actually work on this project as part of my uni work and not feel guilty devoting more time to it like I want too! I'll continue to post updates and document the development here as normal!<br />

The game made is as simple as that, survive in the ring with Shunt for as long as possible, or get him out of there. You lose if you are pushed out yourself.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinbmjlyyC-sEr8gIed5QwMT5NzO7YkMdVt33iskokgTiroBkkn2cydNypfeDPmq8S1VPJOVS0EycWFtnCSRB765Pz5ILCDgEOHg1hMspo2ZE-rQMVfBYhaZlMUQTKtRxIlOxe14qhiBjXD/s1600/SumoStandOff.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="268" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinbmjlyyC-sEr8gIed5QwMT5NzO7YkMdVt33iskokgTiroBkkn2cydNypfeDPmq8S1VPJOVS0EycWFtnCSRB765Pz5ILCDgEOHg1hMspo2ZE-rQMVfBYhaZlMUQTKtRxIlOxe14qhiBjXD/s640/SumoStandOff.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In my game the player can pick a robot and then go up against Shunt in the sumo arena to attempt to do just that! Shunts AI will turn and face the player, moving towards them in an effort to push them off itself. Survive the 60 second or get him out and you win! there are problems with how the AI works however, as Shunt is trying to be exactly where the player bot is, if he gets ontop of you, he will sit and spin, with nowhere else to go and not pushing the player around like he should be. There are also a few issues with collision and the robots weapons. These can cause Shunt to jitter around, and flip and collide in all sorts of manners he shouldn't be.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIH7ckF0mS-kfsq2NB6t8ID2YOxhy1Ak6iz7jEkm4zVCjth1iB-YIOayF9PDEZiOhJ9rTxZ-k92gBDOUg7kT_edPPQoo9h3wUx8KA0oMTPxrc6O1tlxof6v0WX4FoBhT7BkJgE9cGj6HGV/s1600/SumoStandOff2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIH7ckF0mS-kfsq2NB6t8ID2YOxhy1Ak6iz7jEkm4zVCjth1iB-YIOayF9PDEZiOhJ9rTxZ-k92gBDOUg7kT_edPPQoo9h3wUx8KA0oMTPxrc6O1tlxof6v0WX4FoBhT7BkJgE9cGj6HGV/s640/SumoStandOff2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Due to this issues I've decided not to make another playable build just yet, and will try and come up with a solution while working on other modes in the mean time, Shunts model itself isn't finished or textured either. Sumo Basho itself works as intended though, its literally Shunts AI that needs working on. I will start work on another playable mode that hopefully will get released as a build when I have the time, as my final university semester starts soon, and no doubt I will be extremely busy!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In the meantime, please enjoy these screenshots of the newest robots I have created! They will be playable in all modes, and of course, I hope to add many many more yet to come!<br />

<br />
I've been busy this week getting together a playable build of the Pinball Warrior mode I've been working on! Its finally ready, but is still in development. I made all the models and scripted everything. The only thing I do not own is of course Robot Wars itself and the music.<br />
<br />
I'll keep on developing this in my free time, but in a few weeks uni modules will start back up again and I will be busy working on them, so this will be put on the back burner again. Now that I have a fully completed arena, I can use those assets to put together other modes quicker. I can also model more robots for the player to try! I think I'll make Sumo Basho next...Anarchy_Foxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16775928290740548761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485777456641820814.post-41959854649275791462017-01-04T10:30:00.000-08:002017-01-04T10:30:05.684-08:00End of Year Summary and Future GoalsIts the end of 2016, finally! Hopefully it will stop killing off celebrities, muscians and being a generally bad year for the world at large and myself. So I thought to sum up I would go over everything I have achieved and a mini evaluation.<br />
<br />
Firstly, I created this blog to record my development process in my game development in June, its been over half a year already! I've aimed to have a blog post at least once or twice a month, to keep up a digital record of my projects. I did this not only as a record, but also as a quick source to show people that are interested in my work, be it potential employers or others. If you're reading this, thanks for being interested in what I love to do!<br />
<br />
In the summer months, June - August time, I worked on a Wipeout inspired anti gravity themed racer game, and when I say game, I guess I explored HOW I would make a game like that. Doing this vastly improved my knowledge of programming in the C# language and problem solving as I coded everything from the ground up, and in the end, had working ship and track selector, lap timer, as well as a playable level (in an early alpha stage) that incorporated all of these.<br />
<br />

This was my first time using the engine, creating pixel art, and creating a game of the infinite runner genre. I hosted the game via my own GoogleDrive, but after encountering some hosting issues, I uploaded the game to Itch.Io and ScirraArcade websites for the public to play and it gets some good attention! Maybe in the future I will recreate the game in a more complex engine such as Unity and make it a deeper experience for players that holds attention for longer. <a href="https://katd.itch.io/dva-dash" target="_blank">You can play it here!</a><br />
<br />
During the university semester I was very busy with modules, creating a Virtual Reality game using Google Cardboard on Android phones, programming a text summary software (not my favourite, I must admit) and deciding on a final project topic, which has evolved into ARIA. An Augmented Reality Integrated Acquaintance, again on Android phones. These games have really opened up my skills and introduced me to new hardware and technology, expanding on my development experience.<br />

On the side of my personal project, scroll down for the latest on my Robot Wars inspired game which I intend to keep developing into 2017 and hopefully have a alpha build to play as soon as I can.<br />
<br />
In 2017 my university modules will cover my final project, Mobile Technology and building a portfolio, which I am hoping this blog will be featured in as evidence of my work. Happy New Year, and lets make more games!<br />

<br />
I made a Firestorm replica! Isn't he looking pretty hot? Firestorm is one of my favourite flipper bots from the old series, alongside everybodys favourites Chaos2! I scratched not only the modelling for bots, but also threw together a simple concrete themed arena to warmup. It may or may not get used in the game, but hey ho, nothing wrong with abit of practice.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh6qdMfYg4LZe3tpll0mnE_leB6Hk5RINpHROhAMi5Td8M9dhoh3TNm2gwp2OY41rmpfcQOh6cL7DpCBt99AEpPMw6CP6jRYdsD5quL7bfyPipKfa3Darg5RtxK0r_lfaVrjidb_gKpPrN/s1600/RobotTest11.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh6qdMfYg4LZe3tpll0mnE_leB6Hk5RINpHROhAMi5Td8M9dhoh3TNm2gwp2OY41rmpfcQOh6cL7DpCBt99AEpPMw6CP6jRYdsD5quL7bfyPipKfa3Darg5RtxK0r_lfaVrjidb_gKpPrN/s640/RobotTest11.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH0tgrU9WY_prbRWplsvXj66RuIthVahxyJ7wf5ULN-pAZm9_F73I5JcI9GejbEDG8XPoMa8m8XOPMtgv3B3Zsvq5wFMWc5hqsKTSrUOv9M_1HeX1fkEtNRMldd18ZI7xgf6WCQInMIWQC/s1600/RobotTest8.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="340" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH0tgrU9WY_prbRWplsvXj66RuIthVahxyJ7wf5ULN-pAZm9_F73I5JcI9GejbEDG8XPoMa8m8XOPMtgv3B3Zsvq5wFMWc5hqsKTSrUOv9M_1HeX1fkEtNRMldd18ZI7xgf6WCQInMIWQC/s640/RobotTest8.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Firestorm was quite enjoyable to model, looking through the pictures of him, a basic wedge with a front flipper, it wasn't until shaping the body I noticed that my current shape was a little flat. I then realised Firestorm has some slight bevels on its edges, to prevent it being beached on its side no doubt, and once I added those, the shape looks much better. I quickly mocked up a texture in Photoshop and it fit almost perfectly right off the bat! I feel like it does hide the bevels a little though, oh well, that can be easily fixed.</div>
<br />
I also completed a gray box of the Gauntlet arena run! Like the real life version, there are 3 different paths a robot can proceed down after driving out of the turntable. Each path is different and features different hazards to avoid and score points with! I will also be doing the Pinball Warrior arena, as well as a Sumo Basho arena too in the future (hopefully) and with them I can release a playable demo of what I have worked on so far!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirz2fB0RcuQ0G_kaFkxkHIJiq0xK_JD4aPuVnzAATSg8USUfGrvF46akG518VYr6Ehy_G_aN62BIES6OrGgfaSZfhDrhx3VyGc0kcZl427fcD-vHFvNTfZ0ZRF36NkaycCjLVg9Kkj6wGD/s1600/RobotTest12.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="340" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirz2fB0RcuQ0G_kaFkxkHIJiq0xK_JD4aPuVnzAATSg8USUfGrvF46akG518VYr6Ehy_G_aN62BIES6OrGgfaSZfhDrhx3VyGc0kcZl427fcD-vHFvNTfZ0ZRF36NkaycCjLVg9Kkj6wGD/s640/RobotTest12.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course everything is still <u style="font-weight: bold;">VERY MUCH A WORK IN PROGRESS!</u> There are untextured things, unfinished models and mechanics because I am doing it to further my skills as a developer, and to try my hand at making a robot combat game since we don't really have any of those! I feel its a great project to practice all my skills as a developer, programming as well as design and art, and it seems I have caught the attention of a friend on Twitter, much to my delight.<br />

I must admit, this was amazingly flattering and great motivation to work on the project, and I am still debating whether or not to share some screenshots with some GameDev communities or Robot Wars fans on Reddit. Thanks awesome Twitter friend!<br />
<br />
Today was a good day of development on this project, nice to be able to work on something other than my uni projects (which are eating up ALL of my time lately, deadlines, yay) which I will post on when I have a bit more on them to talk about! Firestorm came out great, and its flipper is successfully emulating physics, something I was worried about my game using, Firestorm tossed those thoughts out of my head, literally!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOisJsGFRFFApk62FGhrc0cqiHa4LAH9b6XDn7OVkXEV4qIBBxkAj_knqxW2lc3rqhqSpVmxypHhrVbRplR6rTzqyFXYT9bfzq2Cmsxg3jGmYZZV-p4hxsaIXzNGsry8O1dNEdO0iAsAGI/s1600/RobotTest7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="340" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOisJsGFRFFApk62FGhrc0cqiHa4LAH9b6XDn7OVkXEV4qIBBxkAj_knqxW2lc3rqhqSpVmxypHhrVbRplR6rTzqyFXYT9bfzq2Cmsxg3jGmYZZV-p4hxsaIXzNGsry8O1dNEdO0iAsAGI/s640/RobotTest7.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
For fun I made a rough version of the 2016 Robot Wars arena, complete with a fully textured prototype Hypnodisc to replace the boring grey box version I was using. I also threw in Shunt and got him working to wreck some destruction on some poor robo souls.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq6IJ7GiVDqCtzMRE5j125Ot10TrjY0oLciapWdNW9LDXzEcTopGdrl41fm6PXCEA3rn4okv6wk-D-mmjU_QkrsNpA79li4Ao4gNDAWMiyySOt7WCKR9HDwoM4ImD-dHpU1Ri4oBGgz_k9/s1600/RobotTest5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq6IJ7GiVDqCtzMRE5j125Ot10TrjY0oLciapWdNW9LDXzEcTopGdrl41fm6PXCEA3rn4okv6wk-D-mmjU_QkrsNpA79li4Ao4gNDAWMiyySOt7WCKR9HDwoM4ImD-dHpU1Ri4oBGgz_k9/s400/RobotTest5.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In terms of progress, I accidentally deleted the Canvas gameobject without realising... So I need to redo the HP bars and other minor text I had done. Shouldn't be too hard. in terms of gameplay, I also imported the first version of the old Gauntlet arena! I'll more than likely be adding a point system to it, so theres something to actually play, and would also like to do the Pinball Warrior stuff from Series 4+ just to give some more singleplayer-ability. I'd love to flesh out the arenas some more so they look like they're in studios or indoors, would be a good opportunity to practice with the lighting too. All the while making some more bots of course! I'm unsure whether to use more 'real' bots as I don't know what the effects of that are if they ever reaches a releasable stage, or mix in some of my own designs with some of my favourites.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaD5JoQdhEwVGjDbdzWROtTU2kzO1d6nvuXYkSHSyPlflmzWeekHQAM7V-OGp3lSxMPsz3F91yUInplwBohhP_QA-4uDPjvzVHc5GA719fDLK39JWiECbHRylxnATPGMjJrY8Ml7gAeh99/s1600/RobotTest6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaD5JoQdhEwVGjDbdzWROtTU2kzO1d6nvuXYkSHSyPlflmzWeekHQAM7V-OGp3lSxMPsz3F91yUInplwBohhP_QA-4uDPjvzVHc5GA719fDLK39JWiECbHRylxnATPGMjJrY8Ml7gAeh99/s400/RobotTest6.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Either way, I'll continue gray boxing for now, as uni work is definitely keeping me busy. More on that stuff as it develops!<br />
<br />Anarchy_Foxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16775928290740548761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485777456641820814.post-68081403019783258272016-10-29T13:11:00.003-07:002016-11-07T09:29:44.071-08:00Busy, Busy, Busy!So over the past week or so I have done work on not 1, or 2 but 3 projects of mine! Third year sure makes you be productive.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Firstly I have started developing a AR AI companion app for my Final Project. Inspired by the real life (and super expensive) robot companions you can buy, my aim is to create something similar using the magic of Augmented Reality! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've already got a prototype up and running with Vuforia for Unity, coded some basic variables and animations to go alongside them. I am using the Unity-chan asset as she is a high quality, fully rigged model that already comes with a boatload of animations, and being mecanim, I can add almost any other kind to her easily. She currently has differing Idle animations depending on her mood states, and will emote when you feed or complete a game with her! I am currently looking into text input registration for her as well, so you can ask her questions and talk to her, and later, hopefully this will change into speech to text interaction!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFaX8MEdpVDQj9OGC-1GIBIEGTibM_qYbpljpoPJ_fyoOIRuNEd44OLlqCuZpDcO4K7TNitGidy7Ks_q34sDLXEHXYe2dAPlDqqfcXFKB90lnAW2Rdw8f4w_jueFO7JOXl1v4kVBOD_1fE/s1600/ARCompanion3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFaX8MEdpVDQj9OGC-1GIBIEGTibM_qYbpljpoPJ_fyoOIRuNEd44OLlqCuZpDcO4K7TNitGidy7Ks_q34sDLXEHXYe2dAPlDqqfcXFKB90lnAW2Rdw8f4w_jueFO7JOXl1v4kVBOD_1fE/s640/ARCompanion3.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmJaTn1z_8I4FXgnZ6hH6L39CQBJOqP5isHossNDCrgGjNVJb8tvihrgMWfHZmmdH7M1HRseLK3toPyeO1LrnvJ6-AIGGnwxu13PZcnR9tzT8qBbproJ8NJqXP7jcG23VShGroXHNLS1AK/s1600/ARCompanion1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmJaTn1z_8I4FXgnZ6hH6L39CQBJOqP5isHossNDCrgGjNVJb8tvihrgMWfHZmmdH7M1HRseLK3toPyeO1LrnvJ6-AIGGnwxu13PZcnR9tzT8qBbproJ8NJqXP7jcG23VShGroXHNLS1AK/s640/ARCompanion1.png" width="640" /></a></div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Secondly, I've spent about two days working on a little game for a little game jam we hosted at the university (a casual thing) with the theme of Contrast! Its uploaded to <a href="https://katd.itch.io/dysphoria" target="_blank"><b>itch.io and you can play it here!</b></a> Its a simple platformer that uses the Contrast theme to express mood changes, and how things for someone with depression can seem or suddenly turn ill favourably.</div>
<div>

Its a extremely simple game, and I decided on the art side of things being a main focus to get the theme across, everything is hand drawn and coloured by me. If you do check it out, well thanks for playing! I am currently also looking at getting D.va Dash to work on there and hosted too if possible!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Finally I did some more robot modelling this evening and created the angry bulldozer himself, the mighty Shunt! He has no wheels because I will be throwing him into the robot game for funsies and i am also currently working on that Gauntlet arena I mentioned, but finding it hard to find time in between university work to crack down on it, lest assured the interest is still highly there and I want to continue it!</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Oh hey there! Surprised at myself for being able to make another post so quickly!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We have a 'Emergent Gaming Technology' module here at uni, which has given me the opportunity to experiment with different hardware! I've chosen to go with the awesome <a href="https://vr.google.com/cardboard/" target="_blank">Google Cardboard VR </a>Headset.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I chose this for a variety of reasons:</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Its cheap and accessible to anyone with a smartphone that can run VR apps (AKA have a gyroscope sensor)</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Its easy to develop for, as technically they are just Android built games.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Its a great entry for VR development, being as I have no previous experience at all.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Should be fun! Hoping to come up with lots of great ideas.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- The material is easy to customise.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have already modified my own headset with extra elastic bands to secure my phone while playing, cut a hole out for the camera, as well as strengthening the Velcro tabs with some glue. Alongside printing off and making <a href="http://www.realiteer.com/#intro" target="_blank">Realiteers RealControl 'RealTrigger' VR controllers.</a> All made out of cardboard! They work by having the phones camera tracking a QR code attached to the controller. Coupled with headphones, the headstrap and the RealTrigger controller, this makes for a surprisingly decent and immersive experience, for way way WAY less than a Vive, Samsung Gear or the Rift, and thats what I love about it all.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In other news, my Robot Wars inspired game is coming along nicely! I try to do a little bit each time and be productive on it. I have a working arena Pit of Oblivion and Flamepit working, hooked up to some player health UI. I am currently working on weapon systems and have a good overall system I am hoping to attached to most weapons in order to calculate damage. The arena flipper is fiddly, as well as getting robot flippers to actually flip and not just lift, but I'll keep working on it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All hail the Kingbot Robby! (inspired by a friends reaction to the bot)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA1N2BEzV2-Tt05MEPw6OCm5BApH68GgynZU0lwGCkNlZRUMs94uCfw-ZeWphteLoSFOE4WxO0Cm4PbJKSjSZ1nVzw2U7_ye4gfMvu_Gs1poafx9YryMgCgGenyKuuUqiEYHafUcIurV90/s1600/RobotTest4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="302" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA1N2BEzV2-Tt05MEPw6OCm5BApH68GgynZU0lwGCkNlZRUMs94uCfw-ZeWphteLoSFOE4WxO0Cm4PbJKSjSZ1nVzw2U7_ye4gfMvu_Gs1poafx9YryMgCgGenyKuuUqiEYHafUcIurV90/s640/RobotTest4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also have a wide variety of prototype 'base' bot designs, inspired by real world machines such as Tombstone, Firestorm and Hypnodisc. I set these up because they give a great playable robot base to build my own designs on, or even recreate them faithfully and experiment.</div>

<br />
-Gasp- Is that? Yes! Ladies and Gentle-bots, we have our first 3D draft model of a bot! Bow before the mighty axe of King Robby! Still in his early stages as I am still focused on arena hazards and a HP system before I dive into the fun modelling aspect of things, as well as being busy with university work!<br />
<br />
In other news, our little group is going to enter a game jam with a Game Boy theme! 160 x 144 pixel resolution and MASSIVE 4 colour colour palette to pick from! We already have a idea and will hopefully be getting it done before the end of the week! The idea is a simple music themed rhythm game, which I made some concept art of tonight.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuBCTj57kwpKj1NSs5XPp5ucABv50FSOE1dCqZRopBfYAlNagDWS4yzqCUFU5XWOUGbDsALgRBnJ3X1DkziMO1hwH35wA07WnL49dPVP8cmvr8v8JSbrXH95sjCYQmrqCozGCemRLhzV0p/s1600/Music+GB+Concept.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuBCTj57kwpKj1NSs5XPp5ucABv50FSOE1dCqZRopBfYAlNagDWS4yzqCUFU5XWOUGbDsALgRBnJ3X1DkziMO1hwH35wA07WnL49dPVP8cmvr8v8JSbrXH95sjCYQmrqCozGCemRLhzV0p/s200/Music+GB+Concept.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
I'll keep trying to work on my Robots whenever I get the chance, hopefully I can keep ontop of university to do so! Final Project, why must you hate me so?<br />
<br />

<br />
So as a child I loved Robot Wars! Who didn't want to see 100kg bits of metal destroy each other to an awesome soundtrack and splatter bits of metal all over the arena? And don't forget about the Houserobots you had a awesome recipe for non-lethal robotic entertainment.<br />
<br />
And a video game.<br />
<br />
Now, the official games release between 2001-2003 while entertaining weren't exactly amazing games, not that they were bad either, and I'm certainly not saying I could do better! What the games were though was unique, and after replaying some of my own (and also that fantastic Robot Arena 2 Mod) it got my brain thinking on exactly how things worked.<br />
<br />
Lots of the gameplay seemed to be physics based, with the ability to flip robots around and out of the arena, pushing them around and the like. Armour would fly off in chunks depending on the types of hits you sustained, and damage took. So i started my own mini case study on how these mechanics might be re-created in Unity. Things like the arena flame pit can easily be done with a damage over time collider and particles, the arena pit of oblivion would be even easier. i found from playing the games some more the robots themselves would be the harder part.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5IV0-LRv1ua1akVVr6S1zzo1jH4H5IjnAOTVAXZy2SmyV4zDOZGdoP1jq8kwZdXT1FIB0oNmzicXtwmALrLqJ9MxNmfwrMrFreQ8fKx2hzFSfuRECf9hYX3A0GKrc4-AfrW2c_Qy7-n_2/s1600/RobotTests.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5IV0-LRv1ua1akVVr6S1zzo1jH4H5IjnAOTVAXZy2SmyV4zDOZGdoP1jq8kwZdXT1FIB0oNmzicXtwmALrLqJ9MxNmfwrMrFreQ8fKx2hzFSfuRECf9hYX3A0GKrc4-AfrW2c_Qy7-n_2/s640/RobotTests.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So I went ahead and created my own robots! I have two bots currently, a spinner and axe user. Both can be driven around and 'played with' I'd love to continue with this, as I'd love to model the arena and implement its hazards, maybe recreate the obstacle gauntlets from the earlier series and create something that resembles a game.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLXvFpGWgP4gIusHdyDrvmH0vkBqH7GuogXuftQBI29Hj4mGzU8iLq8GbA1FgEffxB7nQDi1xOR9nFoh7Ptcs9Fr7J1DEzm_tFTE5E3BRIBaAaoeRb2n-5o6GuPh_m1ZFVfT4cfs1npz45/s1600/RobotTest2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="274" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLXvFpGWgP4gIusHdyDrvmH0vkBqH7GuogXuftQBI29Hj4mGzU8iLq8GbA1FgEffxB7nQDi1xOR9nFoh7Ptcs9Fr7J1DEzm_tFTE5E3BRIBaAaoeRb2n-5o6GuPh_m1ZFVfT4cfs1npz45/s640/RobotTest2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
However with university starting again in the next few days and heading into 3rd year I doubt I'll have much free time for my own personal projects!Anarchy_Foxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16775928290740548761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485777456641820814.post-87357398270390776502016-09-19T04:53:00.001-07:002016-11-30T07:52:05.924-08:00D.va Dash Live On Itch.io and Scirra Arcade!<b><u><span style="font-size: x-large;">Play here!</span></u></b><br />
Itch.Io - <a href="https://katd.itch.io/dva-dash">https://katd.itch.io/dva-dash</a> (Reccomended)<br />
Scirra Arcade - <a href="http://tinyurl.com/gu5nmkn">http://tinyurl.com/gu5nmkn</a><br />
<br />
Edit: I also uploaded it to my Itch.Io page! I'll be posting mini little games there like D.va Dash and Dsyphoria. Enjoy!<br />
<br />
So I caved and uploaded the game to Scirras website directly. I didn't want to host it on the website as it seems even more awkward than hosting it as HTML5 through my Drive, but oh well... At least the game is back up and now playable again!<br />
<br />

<br />
I'm not sure when or how exactly this happened, but I believe it might have something to do with Google Drive itself. Upon accessing the games link either on mobile or PC, 1 of 2 things will happen.<br />
<br />
1. You will get a Google 502 Server error with little information other than 'Please wait for this issue to fix itself.<br />
2. The Construct loading screen will display with a red (instead of green) loading bar, and the game will not load at all.<br />
<br />
Looking into the webpages HTML code through Chrome, it seems that the 502 error is persistent there as well, either displaying a black screen and saying loading failed, or in the case of the Construct loading screen, it reports that it is unable to get and load images. (A quick search into this I found unusable characters in the asset names might be the problem but after double checking my asset names, none use any abnormal characters at all.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPmXDdLGuWFOmI4YmwEsFmjsTRfq1lGiW8zStuXO_2qLCh3UlCY5vclLJtz4vyZS_FnegqxmpS90sXIZ2JygxR7uOSTGp0FiDwS_EKXNW7NO-FeyFgkcmVFTmIPmnCrIaxaxwh7wx3Lm4I/s1600/D.va+Dash+Server+Issues2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="294" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPmXDdLGuWFOmI4YmwEsFmjsTRfq1lGiW8zStuXO_2qLCh3UlCY5vclLJtz4vyZS_FnegqxmpS90sXIZ2JygxR7uOSTGp0FiDwS_EKXNW7NO-FeyFgkcmVFTmIPmnCrIaxaxwh7wx3Lm4I/s640/D.va+Dash+Server+Issues2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I don't know any HTML so its very hard for me even try and figure this out to fix this, so I tried a simple solution of re-uploading the game under a different folder in my Drive and making that accessible in the same way as the first upload (under a googledrive.com/host) and this time I don't even get a playable version of the game, I get a list of the game files.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfx1SDh0eHsaDby7Fz8m37XjyvVc807div35q9NP1ccIE58ownKnPEUKssgrPWvc2wndOXh9cAkwqwLp6SmLzQpFfE1TGaGacXQBj2-z2iSc4Rfe56AlKBTNF_nipLpUsIDOfVoyqO7PTc/s1600/D.va+Dash+Server+Issues.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="386" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfx1SDh0eHsaDby7Fz8m37XjyvVc807div35q9NP1ccIE58ownKnPEUKssgrPWvc2wndOXh9cAkwqwLp6SmLzQpFfE1TGaGacXQBj2-z2iSc4Rfe56AlKBTNF_nipLpUsIDOfVoyqO7PTc/s640/D.va+Dash+Server+Issues.jpg" width="640" /></a>Has Drive stopped the support of hosting HTML5? Or am I missing something stupid? Either way the game now can't be played and I either have to fix the hosting or find a way to convert the game to a standalone app.</div>

<br /></div>
<div>
I imported the v2 version of Track 2, and because my AI is so simple, following a predefined path, I now have to tweak each AI's ships path so they fly realistically around the track. I only have 2 weeks before University starts again in which I wont have time to continue this project, so I want to get as much function in terms of gameplay done. These include:</div>
<div>
-Modelling Track 2 (at least without textures)</div>
<div>
-Implementing latest Game Manager script to Track 1</div>
<div>
-Polish Main Menu abit more</div>
<div>
-Adding AI to Track 1</div>
<div>
-Maybe some basic audio</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If I can get all this done with some time left, I hope i can fix the bugs that will no doubt come up. Wish me luck!</div>

<br />
<b><u><span style="font-size: large;">Patch Notes:</span></u></b><br />
<u><b>Added:</b></u><br />
-Tire explosion animation and sound when destroyed.<br />
-Sound on coin pickup.<br />
-Updated pause menu.<br />
-End game screen on death.<br />
-Additional sound effects.<br />
-Tweaked platform spawn. The player should now always have a reachable platform to jump on.<br />
-Added doors in the background.<br />
<br />
Known Issues:<br />
-Main Menu music does not play on mobile devices.<br />
-Can still 'fire' when game is in a paused state.<br />
-Sound lag (Mobile only)<br />
-Sound Effect of 'Are you even trying?' plays only after restarting the game, and not when the end game screen appears like it should. (Mobile only)<br />
<br />
<b><u>Project Summary and Conclusion.</u></b><br />
D.Va Dash started off as a small project I started playing around in with in the Construct 2 Engine. Its my first game in this engine and also the first time I have done any 2D art or animation. So I feel just for a little game to waste a few minutes on it came out really well!<br />
<br />
I feel the gameplay is simple yet engaging enough for a good few replays in one play session due to the random placement of the platforms, coins and tires, especially after tweaking how the platforms spawn. With the tweak, I also feel the slowness of the gameplay has been fixed as there is much more going on now.<br />
<br />
I have lots of ideas on how this game could be extended further. More art, more gameplay elements, different events that happen when the player reaches a certain score, etc etc but as this was only meant to be a mini project its taken up more time than I expected for a 2 week game. I am eager to return to developing Anti Grav Racing. I also would love for it to be a standalone app rather than a HTML5 webpage, but as I have no experience in HTML or Android programming I think I will struggle creating this. HTML5 to Android APK converters I have used haven't been very successful (No music, black screen) but I will keep an eye out incase I do find a away to make it standalone, as I would love to.<br />
<br />
I really enjoyed working on this mini project! It was fun to make a fan game of an actual game I love to play, and I might share it with the Overwatch Reddit page to see if people like it!Anarchy_Foxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16775928290740548761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485777456641820814.post-81298583428193469362016-08-27T10:31:00.000-07:002016-09-15T06:28:38.673-07:00D.va Dash v1.0 Feedback.More of a informal note to myself for fixes and changes needed to be made.<br />
<br />
<b>Version 1.0 is live here!:</b><br />
<a href="https://6b13ebfd4795475fd7d0bdd54c04aad99d2e9703.googledrive.com/host/0B7BJ3arWr-thMDdEZnVsWXlKeVE/">https://6b13ebfd4795475fd7d0bdd54c04aad99d2e9703.googledrive.com/host/0B7BJ3arWr-thMDdEZnVsWXlKeVE/</a> (Built for Mobile, can be controlled via PC though too with mouse)<br />
<br />
<b><u>- Player needs a dedicated platform to reach higher areas.</u></b><br />
<b>Solution1:</b><br />
Reworking platforms to have two 'sets' one that spawns in the upper half of the screen and one in the lower, ensuring the player always has a reachable platform.<br />
<b>Solution2:</b><br />
Having a platform always spawn on a reachable level to the player.<br />
<br />
<b><u>-Layer/Clipping Issues</u></b><br />
Simple Fix: Pretty sure this is just down to the UI not having its own layer yet, and clipping with the newly instantiated objects. Very obvious when using the pause menu.<br />
<br />
<b><u>-Gameplay Speed/Control</u></b><br />
Suggestion: Either increasing the speed of D.vas running to make gameplay more engaging or adding 'speed up and slow down' control. Personally I feel increasing the spawn of the platforms and/or tires will fix this but we will see. Note: Was maybe going to implement increase in speed based on score value. (Higher score = Higher speed = Higher difficulty)<br />
<br />
<b><u>Polish to add:</u></b><br />
-More/Improved background art<br />
-Sound effect for picking up coins and destroying tires<br />
-Animation (explosion or something) when tires are destroyed<br />
<br />
<b><u>Known Technical Issues:</u></b><br />
-Audio problems when running via hosted, mostly on mobile. Main Menu music does not play and some sound effects are delayed. Not sure why this is, might just be due to the HMTL5 host? Problems aren't present in-editor previews.Anarchy_Foxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16775928290740548761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485777456641820814.post-85635235400707082252016-08-16T09:45:00.001-07:002016-09-15T06:28:38.678-07:00Mini Project: D.va Dash!So, I picked up Overwatch recently. Yes I know, jumping on THAT bandwagon I see. Just between you and me, I personally preferred Battleborn in the beta stages, but Overwatch is really fun still and worth the pickup! Plus I can be a Korean girl in a battle mech, which can fly and explode and destroy EVERYONE! Whats not to like? So inspired was I by this little mechanic of being able to pilot the mech but also hop out of it and blast things with a cute pink pistol I decided to make a quick and easy 2D sprite based game off of it!<br />
<br />

<br />
Made using the Construct 2 engine ( a free 2D based engine) in some free time I had, D.va Dash is a simple infinite runner/platformer where you control D.va out of her mech, collecting Overwatch medals and avoiding deadly Junkrat RIP Tires! Nothing amazing just something you play on the pooper or to kill some time! Construct2 doesn't have many great export options for a free user (No standalone support, ew.) So I currently have a test build being hosted on Google Drive (HTML5) on the below link.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://d5e4338a7152d35cf6a85a1be9b0bfccab08e145.googledrive.com/host/0B7BJ3arWr-thTlcwQWVidjVEZGc/">https://d5e4338a7152d35cf6a85a1be9b0bfccab08e145.googledrive.com/host/0B7BJ3arWr-thTlcwQWVidjVEZGc/</a><br />
<br />
Please note this is a TEST BUILD. Not everything is finished, and while I plan to add touch support for mobile devices, there is currently no touch controls. Its also worth noting that this is my first attempt at a 2D sprite based game, with all hand drawn sprites and animations, so don't expect anything flashy.<br />

I plan to hopefully get a more polished build out before returning to AntiGrav but we will see, this was just a fun little mini project done in a week or so.Anarchy_Foxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16775928290740548761noreply@blogger.com0
